Motorists traveling north on I-35 will notice a new Lamoni billboard located 18 miles south of the Iowa / Missouri border in Harrison County, Missouri for travelers from north-central Missouri into south-central Iowa. The billboard was erected in late June and is the result of a project spearheaded by the Lamoni Area Chamber of Commerce. Chamber President Alysha Van Laar and Chamber and Chamber member and past president Judy Harris provided vision input with Lamar Outdoor Advertising.
With Americans spending almost 300 hours in their cars each year, Van Laar asks: "What better way is there to promote / advertise Lamoni? We are always on the go and all moving toward visual reminders. How amazing that our visual presence is a billboard advertising Lamoni, Iowa - STOP, SHOP, EAT, STAY, PLAY!" The project was made possible through the Lead on Lamoni Marketing Committee, Lamoni Area Chamber of Commerce, and Hotel / Motel Tax Funds.
The billboard encourages everyone traveling north on I-35 to experience Iowa starting in Lamoni - the Doorway to Iowa! The Lamoni sign tells a story with a call-to-action in a way that's interesting and memorable. It uses bold imagery, color, and words. Billboard advertising is one of the oldest forms of advertising offering tremendous visibility to vehicular traffic reaching both the driver and all passengers. Most importantly, billboards are noticed - 71% of people consciously look at billboards when driving.
"This new billboard design lines up perfectly with Lamoni being the doorway to Iowa," Harris said. "We have such a great opportunity by being the gateway town into Iowa!" Harris went on to encourage taking advantage of attracting motorists to Lamoni by welcoming all travelors into our community.
